Tutorials & Working Groups:

Free Tutoring - DREAM offers free tutoring to all Dunnville Secondary Students. Tutoring sessions are by appointment through the guidance office at Dunnville Secondary School. Please contact Ms. McMahon at the Guidance Office.

Working Groups: (Grade 11 and higher grades)

  • To raise awareness on the root causes of current social issues.
  • To raise awareness on the importance of education in tackling these issues.
  • To empower the students to formulate a solution and implement it through action. (Both as individuals and as members of their communities)

Global Literacy Project:
Hosts the DREAM Raising Awareness; Film & Speaker series; travels to a Mayan village in Mexico; hosts 5 days of action in Dunnville, Monday April 23rd to Friday April 27th 2012. (Grade 11/12)

DREAM Raising Awareness series
Dunnville Secondary School, Cafeteria, One Friday per month from Oct to May, 5-10 pm

Homelessness & Poverty (Grade 11/12)
The students support its current project, Dunnville Secondary School Breakfast Program offering local, organic and fair trade food daily to all students at DSS. The group also meets once per month to debrief the previous month’s field experiences at Salvation Army Soup Truck and Shared Harvest Community Farm & Education Centre. The students support Tonnie For Hunger event on Monday Oct. 31st, and Vow of Silence on Nov. 11th, 2011.

Fourth Wednesday of every month at the Salvation Army Office in Dunnville, 3:30-5:30 pm

Preserving Our Planet: Organizes & oversees the DREAM Grade 8 Environment Contest (this year’s theme is Alternative Transportation); develops & Implements an environmental project in Dunnville (previous projects): water cooler at DSS, Critical Mass Bike Ride, and promoting organic fair trade food at the school cafeteria. (Grade 11/12)

Meets the fourth Wednesday of every month from 3:30 to 5:30 at Share Harvest Community Farm & Education Centre.

Theatre of Tomorrow: Creates a play dealing with relevant social issues. This play is written, directed and performed by the students at no financial cost. The student’s first play this year is “Security Blanket” that will be performed at Shared Harvest Community Farm on Friday Nov. 11th, 2011. The second play will be performed in April of 2012.

Gina McIntee meets 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month at H-N Literacy Council.

Barbara Kazemi meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month at 305 Helena St.
Debbie VanGrieken meets the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month at Dunnville Public Library.
Judy O’Neill meets the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month at Grandview Lodge.

Class 2013

Rob Lamothe's group meets the second and fourth Monday of every month at Shared Harvest Community farm.
Joanne Jackson's group meets the second and fourth Monday of every month at Grandview Lodge.
Tanya Mazur's group meets the second and fourth Sunday of every month at Grandview Lodge.
Dick Passmore's group meets the second and fourth Wednesday of every month at the Bohemian Friday cafe.

Class 2012

Barb Kazemi/Sue McPherson's group meets the second Monday of every month, at Shared Harvest Community farm.

Debbie VanGrieken's group meets the second Monday of every month at the Dunnville Public Library.

Class 2011

Judy O'Neill's, David Cole's, Petra Daly and Lynn Jackson's groups meet the first Wednesday of every month at Dunnville Public Library.

Class 2010

15 students graduated: 12 attending post-secondary education, one will begin her college studies in Jan. 2011, and 2 are enrolled in 5th year of high school. Thank you to Marlene Hoover and Debbie VanGrieken for their dedication to the lives of our children.

Class 2009

18 students graduated: 15 attending post-secondary education and 2 are currently attending apprenticeship positions. One student entered the work force after completing grade 12. A great thank you to the mentors of the class of 2009, Steve Allen, Joanne Jackson & Reza Kazemi for dedicating 4 years to DREAM's vision of creating a world where all students have equal access to all levels of education.

Class 2008

21 students graduated: 20 attending post secondary education and one student secured an apprenticeship position. A huge thank you to the mentors of the class of 2008, Candace Stern, Lee Smith, Jane Collins, and Reza Kazemi for making this happen.
